| Susan found her calling in art at a very early age, illustrating a good deal of her family's storybooks. Yes, that means abstracts in crayon. Early memories of her room include pictures hanging by Degas and Klee. As life went on, interests melded more in the direction of Klee's feeling for geometry and rawness as opposed to the fine beauty exhibited by Degas' dancers. Exploits in art led her to choose Art as a major at James Madison Unitversity's School of Art with a concentration in Textile Design. Susan ate, breathed, slept and lived art... .... and then moved to Germany for 5 years and got totally off course from artistic pursuits. Returning back to the States in 1996, Susan pursued an education in graphic design at a local community college and then became highly disillusioned in a career of pre-press print work and web design. Before moving on to starting to work for hire on her own terms and then.... ... finding her way to DeviantArt and hailing in a period of finding her way back to what made her tick in the first place, as best represented by the prints in this dA account. Susan now lives in Williamsburg again and is the satisfied owner of a much loved loom, which keeps her busy along with varied artistic interests such as oil paintings and digital art. Her pursuits are mainly abstract and definitely colorful. Whereas showing has never been the point of Susan's drive create, she welcomes commissions and opportunities to show. |
